ECCO designer challenges technology with the new Dress Comfort Collection

Think of your most stylish shoes – then think about the comfort. Not a match? Think again.

“With Dress Comfort AW14 we bring to the market stylish, comfortable shoes with ECCO DNA – Scandinavian design anchored in functionality and simplicity,” says Lead Designer, Ladies, Niki Tæstensen.

The Dress Comfort collection is built on Direct Injection, which is a core technology of ECCO. The upper is placed into a mould and the sole is injected under the upper. This process forms a watertight seal without using glue or stitching.

The result is a light, feminine and flexible shoe that is ready to conquer the world with all day, everyday comfort in timeless Scandinavian design.

With the Dress Comfort collection, ECCO pushes technology even further - challenging production, materials and designers. The collection is an unprecedented balance of comfort and style in one comprehensive shoe wardrobe.

How would you describe the work with Dress Comfort?

“Dress Comfort places demands on everything from our craftsmanship to technology. We are working with softer leather and finer thread, which challenges everyone from designers to production. But it displays how ECCO lives and breathes innovation,” Niki Tæstensen explains.

He adds that the Dress Comfort collection is more than meets the eye.

“The work with Dress Comfort is very much based on teamwork where everyone from leather experts in our tanneries to shoe technicians in our production come together in innovation. ECCO has e.g. for this collection developed leather that is incredibly soft,” says Niki Tæstensen.

What is your key tool to combine comfort and style?

“The last. The last is our ultimate parameter from where all of our designs originate. The last ensures outstanding comfort and our challenge is to, from the last, design a shoe that is contemporary yet stylish and above all – comfortable.”

What has been your main driver in working with this collection?

“My main driver in working with the Dress Comfort AW14 collection has been to create something beautiful with ECCO DNA, but also contemporary. To reach that exact setting is very much about adding four things and taking away three. The essence of simplicity in Scandinavian design. Therefore, every time we add details or materials – we take away something else.”

How would you describe the Dress Comfort AW14 collection?

“In my opinion we have made a collection that has edge, but at the same time is very feminine and contemporary. In this collection comfort and style are a match and women do not need to compromise.”
